Developers who are using Tenjin’s DataVault for data warehousing will need to use some kind of database tool to run their queries. Many developers build their own SQL database or purchase a SaaS BI tool. But if you’re looking for a free desktop app to get the job done, we highly recommend you check out DBeaver.
DBeaver is a free multi-platform database tool for developers, SQL programmers, database administrators and analysts. It is based on opensource framework and allows writing of various extensions (plugins). It has a great number of features, and usability is the main goal of the project, as program UI is carefully designed and implemented by a dedicated group including Serge Rieder, Denis Forveille and several others.
Tenjin customers can use their DataVault credentials to analyze their data using DBeaver. All you have to do is download the latest version of DBeaver here and install it onto your desktop. Be sure to get the Enterprise version as it includes NoSQL databases support and additional Eclipse extensions for better project management.
From there, you can follow the directions for how to connect your database to DataVault by reading the instructions in the Tenjin help center (requires login). Let us know if you get stuck or have any questions.
We love supporting open source software and we think you’re really going to like DBeaver. If you do give it a try, please let us know your thoughts by leaving them in the comments of this post or emailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
